The Manager – Financial Clearance reports to the Assistant Director – Financial Clearance and is responsible for the management and oversight of activities related to financial clearance for Vanderbilt University Medical Center's (VUMC) technical and professional revenue cycle encompassing Vanderbilt University Hospitals & Clinics as well as Vanderbilt Medical Group.
Manages the technical and/or professional revenue cycle. Oversees daily operations of billing, collection and payment process.
Provide oversight and leadership for the financial clearance team
Work with colleagues throughout VUMC to continuously improve the revenue cycle while enhancing service to patients and optimizing relationships with strategic business partners and vendors
Develop, implement, and manage efficient and effective operational policies, processes and performance monitoring
Coordinate with peers across the revenue cycle organization to effectively manage third-party denials by identifying trends and implementing denials prevention and/or recovery programs related to financial clearance services
Partner with peers across the scheduling, registration management, pre-service patient collections, onsite patient access, and clinical areas to ensure both pre-service and day of service activities are coordinated to ensure patients are financially cleared prior to treatment
Ensure third party payer requirements (e.g. eligibility, pre-certification / authorization, referral management, etc.) are met
Coordinate with utilization management departments to ensure compliance with admitting and discharge procedures, including patient-type status changes, and management of appeals in coordination with the business office
Ensure staff comply with established policies, processes and quality assurance programs
Build strong relationships and facilitate productive communication between key revenue cycle stakeholders, including peer leaders and core support departments (e.g., clinical, human resources, informatics, finance)
Measure and report ongoing financial and operational performance of financial clearance team
Work collaboratively with teams across VUMC, VMG, and VHAN to communicate and educate leadership regarding improvement opportunities as necessary
Support the implementation of any software applications or technology enablers that improve the overall functionality of pre-visit services. This may include installation and/or enhancements to the core patient account applications or other technologies
Supervise, recruit, motivate, develop and retain a superior team that is outcome focused, encourages efficiency and automation, drives performance, and effectively develops and rewards key performers
REVENUE CYCLE - Knowledge of the financial process to track patient care from registration and scheduling to the final payment of a balance.
