Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385 bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative , patient centered and evidence-based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation,joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, Telemetry, step-down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
The Patient Service Representative greets patients and visitors in person or on the telephone; obtains demographic, financial and medical information for registration and identification, coordinates and assists in the completion of all activities relating to patients' finances, to facilitate the collection and distribution of information and to expedite a smooth and timely billing and collection process while adhering to department policies and procedures.
Access to demographic information and limited patient health information related to job function.
The Patient Service Representative monitors and expedites the necessary authorizations and approvals for hospital outpatient services or elective surgeries per the designated insurance carriers.
Department Specific Duties:
Greets patients in a friendly manner
Collects, organizes and enters Hospital Facility charges for ICON
Competent in utilizing multiple computer systems (i.e PBAR and Nextgen)
Participates in Electronic Medical Records training and demonstrates effective use of knowledge and new skills
Verifies all receipts with money (cash/checks/credit card payments) and balances with the provider log sheets.
Adheres to DRMC Service Standards & ICON Practice Standards
When completing charge entry, perform with accuracy and minimal corrections on back end
Utilize ICD-9 (ICD-10) and CPT books to help with accuracy of coding and charge entry
Acts as a â��team playerâ�� doing whatever task is necessary to assure efficient functioning of office and highest quality care to patients and companies who request our service
Performs other job duties as needed
High School Diploma or GED
One to three years recent experience in acute care hospital registration or business office environment.
Knowledge in Medicare, Medi-Cal and third party billing and collection procedures.
Type 35 WPM
Experience or knowledge in admissions, registrations and insurance verification is essential.
Ability to speak Spanish.
