The inpatient coder assures quality and timely submission of diagnosis and procedure codes for data retrieval and reimbursement. The position performs retrospective coding for all acute, inpatient records following ICD-10-CM/PCS Code Set guidelines. CMS rules/regulations and third party payors are also utilized for ethical, accurate and appropriate code assignment.
This position follows-up as needed on audit results or denials and works with other departments to support revenue cycle activity. This position may cross-train to support outpatient coding/charging functions for certain patient types utilizing CPT code set.
Associates degree in Health Information Science preferred
Five years coding experience in a hospital setting
Registration as an R.H.I.A.
