Description Nurse Practitioner Department of Psychiatry Role Summary : The addiction psychiatry nurse practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team across at least two settings: the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry outpatient clinics. The NP will work alongside our addiction psychiatrists and counselors to diagnosis substance use disorder as well as co-occurring psychiatric disorders, to assist other medical teams to distinguish pain and opioid addiction, to initiate medications-for-addiction treatment when appropriate, and to treat co-occurring psychiatric disorders. As VUMC is in the process of expanding outpatient addiction services, the NP will play a central role in the development of treatment protocols and procedures for multidisciplinary collaboration. The addiction psychiatry NP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education, has a responsibility for ensuring adherence to diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms and protocols, and guarantees an environment of high-quality care. The NP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Basic Qualifications: This position requires a master's degree in Nursing and ANCC certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Twelve months of psychiatric nursing experience is preferred. License Required: Current Tennessee RN license and TN APN certificate with certificate of fitness to prescribe. Must be eligible for DEA license. Additional Information: This is a full-time position; primary duties are Monday through Friday 8AM-5PM, with the possibility of on-call duty in rotation with other staff. Department Summary:
The Department of Psychiatry provides inpatient and outpatient services to children, adolescents, and adults with mental illnesses.
The major site for inpatient services is the Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital (VPH) .
Outpatient services include the Vanderbilt Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (VAPOC), the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic (CAPOC), and several school-based programs.
