| The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT). The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist will function in Radiology Service located at the Lorain, OH Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) employee at this level is fully functional as a DRT and can carry out the assigned tasks independently. Additional includes but are not limited to the following: Accurately operates a wide variety of imaging equipment to obtain examinations of acceptable quality, utilizing the least amount of radiation to obtain quality imaging for diagnosis purposes. He/she works independently and efficiently on exams and confers with Radiologists and CBOC Diagnostic Supervisor on more difficult problems. Work is spot-checked for accuracy and achievement of objectives. Performs all aspects of diagnostic radiologic imaging including but not limited to Head, Neck, Chest, Spine, Abdomen, Pelvis, Extremities, weight-bearing, and pre-op planning using established protocols and industry standard radiographic imaging procedures. Incumbent will work with the radiologist/physician as a member of the Radiology team. He/she works independently on most exams but confers with Radiologists and Diagnostic CBOC Supervisor on more difficult problems. When performing fluoroscopy, prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist that are used in fluoroscopic imaging. Technologist acquires and maintains knowledge in digital radiography dose optimization and the factors that directly affect radiation dose from the radiographic unit to the patient. Performs duties of Diagnostic Radiography quality control including QAP and image quality control. Enters repeated images into system as required for reporting tool. Maintains knowledge of all department, Medical Center and CBOC section policies. Technologist receives and interprets all radiology requests for accuracy, appropriateness. Thoroughly reviews the diagnostic orders screening information for accuracy, noting and researching all questionable information prior to contacting the patient or performing the exam. Inputs pertinent information into the designated PACS computer systems and has knowledge to register, complete, cancel and edit exams. Performs and completes imaging studies within the established guidelines for stat, pre-op, urgent, and routine exams. Technologist works with diagnostic schedule to assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload, making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities and additional assignments. Applies Infection Control practices and procedures for patients and staff, as mandated by the Medical Center and Radiology Service Infection Control policies. Applies safety procedures for self, patients and others as mandated by Radiology Service Safety policies for all imaging modalities. Properly operates all electrical and mechanical equipment, is cognizant of basic safety practices related to the use of the assigned equipment. Adheres to hospital infection control and safety policies/techniques; the storage of supplies; proper attire; hand washing practices; and continuing education. Maintains adequate supplies and pharmaceuticals used in the department. Responsible for stocking and inventory of all supplies, notifying supervisor when supplies are not available and monitoring expiration dates to ensure all items are within compliance. Use independent judgment and possess the ability to vary exams or treatment procedures as needed to compensate for patient's individual medical conditions and body habitus. Properly identifies patient images by using the HIS/RIS patient identification lists, R & L marker, patient position and all other identifying markers for that view. Transmits images in appropriate anatomical orientation. Properly identifies areas of interest on all images, if applicable. Responsible for minor equipment adjustments, repairs and exercises care in the handling and safeguarding of all equipment. Technologist will check equipment for proper function prior to performing procedures. Technologist must report equipment malfunction in a timely manner through Diagnostic Supervisor, CBOCs or her designee via phone call and Outlook email so as proper attention is ensured to maintain the integrity of the equipment. Maintains competency and thorough knowledge of the processes for Critical, Semi Critical, and Non-Critical Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) that document the process and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME and follow established procedures for all RME. Responsible to adhering to the RME policies and procedures within the Radiology Service. Complies with all safety/fire prevention rules/regulations, using protective equipment when required and provided. Promptly reports all accidents and notifies supervisor of unsafe/unhealthful conditions in the workplace. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
