This position is located within the Radiology Service Line. The position is that of a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist who functions above the fully functional level and is responsible for the performance of all breast imaging examinations including Quality Control/Assurance, mammography, breast ultrasound, and image guided interventional procedures of the breast. Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the performance of a variety of complex mammography radiographic exams on the patients of this medical center. These include, but are not limited to, screening and diagnostic mammography exams. The Lead Technologist is responsible for the quality, and quantity of imaging examinations, and for ensuring proficiency and compliance of staff to all service, facility and accreditation standards for breast imaging. Responsible for the performance of a variety of interventional breast procedures. This includes interventional breast procedures performed with radiologic, sonographic or MRI image guidance. The Lead Technologist is responsible for daily operations of the unit and for personnel management; and is accountable to the Chief Technologist and Breast Imaging Chief. Responsible for organizing/maintaining a comprehensive Quality Assurance program within the Breast Imaging section and representing the department at annual FDA inspections. He/she works closely with the technologists, radiologists, clinicians and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality screening/diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction. Keeps abreast of current technical literature, ACR and FDA guidelines. Learns of new developments in mammography and radiology by reading journals and attending meetings, when possible. Ensures all personal certifications and qualifications are continuously monitored and kept current, as required by the FDA and ACR. This includes qualifications for all the breast imaging physician radiologists, technologists and medical physicists. Tracks and coordinates annual and semiannual equipment inspections and preventative maintenance with Biomedical Engineering, and reviews and acts upon their recommendations. Ensures staff compliance to RME cleaning according to policy and manufacturers guidelines. The Lead Technologist is designated as the Mammography Quality Assurance Technologist. As such the Lead Technologist is responsible for all activities governed by or related to breast imaging standards set forth by Imaging Service, VHA, MQSA and American College of Radiology Accreditation.
