The Health Technician - Endoscopy and Gastroenterology Scheduling Coordinator for the Orlando VA Medical Center, located in Orlando, Florida, VISN 8 located in Endoscopy within Patient Care Services. Providing high-level administrative support and management expertise. Also, have the responsibility to engage in data collection and analysis work, special projects, Endoscopy efficiency activities, training programs and service recovery related to Endoscopy functions. Major Duties Include: Coordinates and develops the daily master Endoscopy schedule. Inputs and manages data for scheduling cases into the VistA. Scheduling Software package and independently in alliance with established number(s) of procedural rooms available and assigned procedural times, adherence to historical utilization data, manages and communicates cancellation situations, and communicates and manages the scheduling of emergent endoscopy procedures. Evaluates all requests for endoscopy to ensure realistic numbers of cases and lengths of procedures which will be set by the benchmarks established by Gastroentero1ogy Service's leadership. Screens all endoscopic procedure requests against existing clinical privileges to ensure that all providers are credentialed to perform requested procedures, consults with the Endoscopy Nurse Manager or Chief of Gastroenterology should questions arise regarding privileging and credentialing. Takes appropriate procedural action in conjunction -with the Endoscopy Nurse Manager or Chief of Gastroenterology when allocations are exceeded. Works independently and/or coordinates with the Endoscopy Nurse Manager or Chief of Gastroenterology on the most complex issues such as procedural competition for space and/or time. Serves as a resource on specific tasks and procedures, demonstrates knowledge of, and compliance with, policies regarding equipment and supply management. Retrieves and coordinates procedure requests that arrive off-shift; manages requests in appropriate manner based upon procedural classification (Emergent, urgent, or screening). Provides guidance and training to other Endoscopy scheduling staff members who work off-shift; ensures effective flow of communication across shifts. Participates in Process Improvement initiatives identified by the Endoscopy Nurse Manager or Chief of Gastroenterology. Attends and participates in committee meetings as assigned and appropriate. Scheduling of non-GI endoscopic procedures that include but are not limited to Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), Bronchoscopies and Hepatic Biospies.
