The Associate Chief Nurse for Nursing Practice, Shared Governance, and Pathways to Excellence(PTE) provides assistance and guidance to the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive for establishing and maintaining PTE standards, shaping nursing clinical practice through professional and program development related to PTE designation. This Associate Chief Nurse also supports Shared Governance Councils and related activities. In collaboration with clinical and administrative nursing leadership, the Associate Chief Nurse for Nursing Practice, Shared Governance, and Pathways to Excellence® (PTE) will encourage creative thinking, collaboration and transparency while guiding performance improvement efforts to produce the highest quality of care for our Veterans. Supports Nursing Service engagement in areas to include, but not limited to: Shared Governance Model: Utilizing the Nurse Executive Board, the incumbent will align and develop councils and activities to align with Nursing Service priorities. The coordinator will aid in establishing a model based on the four major principles of Shared Governance: Partnership, Equity, Accountability and Ownership. The incumbent will promote an inclusive environment fostering professional development and nursing practice, collaboration and teamwork for the nursing staff while providing oversight to the Nursing Practice Council and will maintain emphasis on evidence-based practice initiatives through modeling, mentoring, facilitating, and educating to ensure key learning is being communicated. ANCC Pathway to Excellence: The incumbent will assist in the coordination of various aspects of the ANCC Pathway to Excellence pursuit, application, designation, and re-designation process. The incumbent serves as the PTE advisor to the leadership team and liaison to the ANCC Pathway to Excellence Office. The Coordinator will assist in coordinating activities required to attain and maintain the PTE ANCC designation. The incumbent is expected to routinely meet with Nursing Executive Leadership to keep them informed of facility progress towards ANCC Pathway to Excellence standards, compliance, and designation. Strategic planning: The incumbent participates in the development and implementation of the strategic plan for Nursing Service that is aligned with the strategic plan for VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System (EKHCS). The incumbent will also be responsible for planning and coordinating strategic planning sessions aligned with Shared Governance and Evidenced Based Practice. Quality: The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the nursing team and Quality, Safety, & Value Department to facilitate the achievement of nursing and medical center quality goals and metrics through various Service and unit-based practice councils. In addition, is also accountable for the following: Supports EKHCS's journey to be a High Reliability Organization by exemplifying the 3 Pillars of High Reliability Organizations: 1) Leadership Commitment, 2) Culture of Safety, and 3) Continuous Process Improvement. Exemplifies the 5 Principles of High Reliability Organizations (Sensitivity to Operations, Preoccupation with Failure, Reluctance to Simplify, Commitment to Resilience, and Deference to Expertise) throughout daily work. Promotes an environment of interdisciplinary excellence that is patient centric. Demonstrates clinical excellence in leading positive nursing practice environments which emphasize collaboration, career development and accountable leadership. Works w/ supervisors in identifying areas of needed improvement, promoting strong nursing teams, and establishing strategic initiatives for opportunities of growth. Systematically evaluates current practice to continuously develop, revise, and implement programs to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of patient care. Creates an environment and programs that facilitate a high level of nursing excellence and performance, including but not limited to nursing orientation, annual competency evaluation and continuing education. Guides staff in the application of the critical thinking and leads nursing teams in performance improvement projects.. Assists the Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS/NE) w/ planning, organizing, directing, controlling, and implementing cost effective nursing care programs and staffing. Applies creative techniques to motivate staff to improve knowledge, skill, and patient care interventions inclusive of research, evidence, and best practice. Identifies, develops, and maintains a comprehensive data management system for achieving, maintaining and continued readiness that facilitates data driven decisions. As such, provides leadership for nursing informatics to prepare and present annual Nursing Report to include the goals and achievements that have had impact on patients, community nursing partners, EKHCS, and/or the nursing profession. Provide segment of nursing orientation of new staff regarding the Shared Governance Structure, Nursing Council functions, and membership expectation. Provides oversight to create a Nursing Newsletter in collaboration with the Nursing Leadership Team, Shared Governance Councils, and others as identified by the Nurse Executive Board and/or the ADPCS/NE. Work Schedule: Full-time days, Monday-Friday 0730-1600 or 0800-1630
