The Biomedical Technician is responsible to ensure maintenance and repair to electronic medical equipment in accordance to regulatory guidelines. Biomedical Engineering promotes correct and effective use of clinical equipment by the end users to ensure patient safety. This includes maintaining accurate policies and procedures and standard practices as it pertains to each specific type of electronic medical equipment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
Demonstrates the ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on medical devices in accordance with regulatory requirements, manufacturer recommendations, industry best practices, assessed risk, and organizational needs.
Responsible for maintaining inventory for each piece of equipment including device maintenance.
Manages the updates preventive maintenance data base by adding and/or removing equipment and their respective procedures according to Medical Center policy and procedure, and regulatory agencies guidelines and hospital policies.
Responsible for performing timely corrective maintenance on medical devices in order to return equipment to service safely and without unnecessary delay.
Ability to prioritize and multitask as appropriate to maintain medical device safety, reliability and availability.
Ability to quickly respond acquired knowledge of equipment, and systems act as equipment “trouble-shooter”, identifying where problems exist and recommending resolution as needed.
Ability to deal with issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

5 years’ experience in biomedical equipment repairs at a health care facility is preferred. In lieu of this experience, consideration will be made for staff with strong education and associated experiential background.
Experience in the evaluation, maintenance, safety and management of biomedical equipment in a healthcare setting by conducting safety inspections, maintenance and repairs of all biomedical equipment.
Experience preferred at performing clinical staff in-services on safe use of equipment, and investigation of medical equipment incidents.
Graduate of an accredited biomedical school and/or AA College degree program on related field preferred.
Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician (CBET) is preferred.
