Position Summary: As the senior level nursing executive for the ambulatory nursing enterprise, the Chief Nurse Executive drives the culture for professional nursing practice, manages variability in nursing using evidence-based practice to increase efficiency and effectiveness of care and works with facility leadership to ensure processes and structures are deployed consistently across the system to drive performance and ensure accountability is maintained. The CNE provides oversight of the provision of nursing care and is responsible for supervision of nursing and clinical policies and procedures that define and establish a uniform standard of quality patient care. The incumbent designs, facilitates and directs the delivery of care and services to customers including patients, staff, physicians, family members and community representatives. The CNE holds the predominant accountability to develop the ambulatory nursing strategic plan for the ambulatory enterprise - with a key focus on the transition from a fee for service model to a population health nursing model of care. Accountable for the direction of high quality and cost-effective patient care services to the community, working in collaboration with leadership members in fulfilling the institution's mission. Additional responsibilities include planning and directing the clinical, financial, and operational activities of the clinical nursing departments within his/her areas of responsibility while ensuring that clinical processes are designed for both efficiency and effectiveness. Along with the CQSNO the incumbent develops and interprets patient care standards, ensuring the provision of high quality, cost effective, and patient-centered services that support the Strategic Nursing Plan, QAPI and/or CQIP and core elements of MultiCare's mission and vision. The incumbent works closely with the Chief Quality, Safety and Nursing Officer and Physician Executive, Finance Business Partner, and senior leaders in a team-oriented approach to planning and operational oversight. The incumbent establishes and maintains professional, positive working relationships with physicians, nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members, community groups, and other leaders throughout MHS. The incumbent is a member of the Nurse Executive Council and works collaboratively with peer Nurse Executives to identify and address System level nursing care functions. In areas where the CNE is responsible for ambulatory operations they are accountable to the CNE of each licensed facility where their ambulatory operation provides services, and are responsible, within their scope, for compliance with all applicable rules of the Department of Health, Joint Commission and/or CMS Conditions of Participation pertaining to the provision of patient care within their service line, including but not limited to quality & safety, at each licensed facility and any related Provider-Based Clinics that they support. The CNEs for licensed facilities (including Tacoma General-Allenmore Hospital, Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, Auburn Medical Center, and Good Samaritan Hospital) are responsible for compliance with all applicable rules of the Department of Health, Joint Commission and/or CMS Conditions of Participation pertaining to the provision of patient care, including but not limited to quality & safety, at each licensed facility and any related Provider-Based Clinics they are assigned to.
Minimum Requirements: Minimum of 6 years experience in progressively more responsible management positions, preferably in the ambulatory and clinic setting Experience in ambulatory clinic operations management Ten or more years recent clinical experience Senior level communication, presentation, leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills required. Clinical and managerial skills and expertise. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills The ability to work across diverse levels within the organization (professional and support staff) Action oriented, demonstrated capability to lead in a complex environment, using influence, negotiation and collaboration. Ability to diagnosis organizational issues and provide creative and evidence-based solutions for improvements. Coach and develop others to reach the desired outcomes. Proven ability to deliver results for meeting organizational objectives. Skilled in using quality tools and process improvement. A politically astute risk-taker who is not afraid to try new approaches, a big picture person, is comfortable and enjoys working in a rapidly changing, a fluid environment and can deal effectively with ambiguity.
Education/Licenses/Certifications: Masters degree in Nursing required Current license as Registered Nurse in the State of Washington
