The Chest Pain Center Coordinator provides leadership for the Emergency Department, Cath Lab, Telemetry, Medical/Surgical Unit, and Intensive Care Unit along with other entities within the cardiac service line to promote excellence in cardiac patient care. This position will also assist in the planning, development, and implementation of program goals and operations. Coordinates and oversees the ongoing CQI process to improve care of the cardiac patient population.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Oversees quality improvement initiatives. Assists and recommends protocols and guidelines for best practice treatment of cardiac patients across the continuum of care. Oversees the tracking process for data related to throughput of the cardiac patients and provides data to the Chest Pain Committee to initiate changes to improve outcomes. Works with the Chest Pain Medical Director to assure continuity in care of all cardiac patients and quality outcomes.
Directs and coordinates all aspects of NCDR Registry functions, including data collection, data submission, daily quality report issues, outcomes reports review and analysis, and contract management. Assures compliance with the Joint Commission and all other applicable regulatory agency guidelines.
Maintains standards for the Chest Pain Center. Chairs and/or coordinates the Chest Pain Committee. Assists in the development of strategic plans for the growth of Cardiology Services.
Acts as a resource internally and in the community regarding educating others about the ACS patients. Represents the hospital at a local, regional and national levels related to best practices for ACS patients. Speaks at educational conferences and becomes involved with the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers. Works closely with Emergency Medical Services to assure optimal continuity of care, from pre-hospital to hospital. Participates in education, research and performance improvement activities to enhance and maintain departmental staffs? qualifications and standards of performance.
Serves as preceptor for new staff, ancillary staff and students. Collaborates with Director, Nurse Manager, Nursing Educator and staff to identify and provide opportunities for staff members to develop knowledge, skills and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the department. Conducts cardiac research studies as appropriate to facilitate care. Educates nursing and ancillary staff on best practices in the treatments of ACS and AMI patients.
Develops education for new employees on the mission and vision of the facility related to chest pain patients and chest pain accreditation.
Oversees provision of patient care. Conducts routine rounds on select patient groups. Collaborates with other departments with an interdisciplinary approach to patient care. Monitors quality of care using a variety of methods to assess areas for improvement. Conducts follow up calls with discharged cardiac patients.
Serves as a resource for hospital and community education regarding the chest pain program. Develops effective presentation tools to facilitate the identification and interpretation of cardiac related data. Works with Marketing to develop community outreach / educational programs.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
At least 3 years of experience involved in the direct care of the ACS patient in either the ED, Cath Lab, CCU or Telemetry Units.
Analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills set. Must be able to use critical thinking.
Must be able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Ability to work with various disciplines in the healthcare environment, as well as external partners.
Requires strong communication skills, to include public speaking and presentation skills to educate staff and community.
Able to work independently and autonomously, and organize/prioritize work assignments.
Strong computer skills.
Time Management skills are very important.
