Montana Sports Medicine is a program of St. James Healthcare that has been providing athletic training outreach services to southwest Montana area schools for over 25 years.  Our program currently has contracted services with 2 collegiate and 3 high schools and 1 junior high school in the area.  The sports medicine programâ™s medical director is Dr. Nick DiGiovine, who is a fellowship trained Orthopedic Surgeon and is currently also a consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This Licensed Athletic Trainer position is for coverage with School District # 1, which is the Class AA  high school (Class AA are the largest schools in Montana) and the junior high school located here in Butte.  The position is full time working with School District # 1 and other duties within Montana Sports Medicine such as educational seminars and projects.  Montana Sports Medicine is currently contracted with School District # 1 to provide two athletic trainers for their athletic department.  This position is the addition of a third full time licensed athletic trainer.  We are looking for a highly independent, motivated and driven individual to fill this position.

Your day.

As an Athletic Trainer you need to know how to:

• Work with the Montana Sports Medicine Program and Medical Director to identify needs for services in the community and all Southwest Montana, within the scope of athletic training.


• Identify needs and facilitate the development of programs and services to meet the needs of the community within the budget constraints of the sports medicine center.  Prepare proposals and plans for services.


• Educate the athlete and/or patient and family as part of the treatment plan and rehabilitative process.


• Maintain injury tracking system for assigned schools.


• Maintain proper documentation on all athletes or patients.


• Work in compliance with each contract, with the Athletic Director and Montana Sports Medicine Program to develop coverage schedule.


• Communicate with medical and allied health professionals regarding athletes' progress, needs, return to sport, and discharge planning.


• Provide rehabilitative interventions.


• Perform athletic testing protocols.


• Adhere to the NATA Code of Ethics.


• Follow all BOC Standards of Professional Practice.


• Assist in planning and preparation as well as presentation of outreach activities. Present business plans on assigned outreach programs to the Supervisor, Director and Medical Director of Montana Sports Medicine Center.


• Provide learner appropriate instruction in injury prevention, and injury management for the athlete or patient to use independently. Adapt conventional techniques to meet the needs of athletes and patients unable to comprehend verbal commands.


• Identify family members and caregivers who may assist in the program as prescribed and provides appropriate education to them as well.

• Bachelorâ™s Degree or Masterâ™s Degree, required


• Current licensure by the Montana State Board of Athletic Trainers (LAT), required


• Current BOC-certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing, required


• Current BLS certification, required
