Are you interested in putting data to work for Veterans? The VA's Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry (AHOBPR) is the fastest growing national registry in the VA with >265,000 participants and approximately 500 new participants joining each week. We are seeking a motivated and independent Registry Analyst to join our team to help us better understand the potential health effects of exposure to airborne hazards during military service. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: You must have a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this Health Science Specialist position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -AND- TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-09 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: maintaining analytical datasets; compiling and merging data to prepare for analysis; using data management software programs; performing quantitative data analyses including descriptive analysis; and presenting results of analyses to the team. Your skills must be documented in your resume to receive full credit. -OR- EDUCATION: Have you successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Compile and merge data to prepare for analysis. Clean, manage, and analyze data, using analytic software packages (SAS or R), to determine accuracy for the preparation of analytical datasets for longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis. Monitor data for accuracy, and compile and merge to create analytical datasets for longitudinal and cross-sectional analysis. Maintain and update datasets over time. Perform statistical modeling and quantitative analysis on datasets, including basic descriptive analysis/tabulating profiles/creating data plots, in preparation for more advanced analyses. Maintain data compression and efficiency through indexing and other compression techniques. Use descriptive analyses including data plots to understand the data distribution and detect outliers in order to create an analytical dataset for more advanced analyses. Discuss and present results of analyses with the team and provide input to the team regarding data issues. Help establish program goals and objectives and identifies results indicative of successful program accomplishments. Assist senior Health Science specialist with establishing acceptable research policies and procedures for evaluation groups to conduct their reviews and to frame their recommendations for project effectiveness and medical research funds. Monitor compliance with program requirements. Conduct program assessments and prepares reports necessary for program continuity and reporting. Use systems including the VA Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI). Conduct outcome research and quality assurance. Identify problems, suggests corrective actions concerning programmatic issues, establishes criteria, and develops new techniques and information. Assist in the determination of the need for additional ad hoc review/representation from scientific and medical practice specialties. Performs other related duties as assigned.
